About Joseph Perea, MD

Joseph Perea, M.D., is the lead hospitalist at Lovelace Westside Hospital, where he has been a hospitalist since 2014. He has also been a hospitalist at both Lovelace Medical Center and Lovelace Women’s Hospital since 2007. Dr. Perea received his medical degree from the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle and completed his internship and residency at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, where he also completed a clinical fellowship in rheumatology. Dr. Perea has been serving the New Mexico community since 1980, when he started as an Emergency Room physician at the VA Medical Center. He is a diplomat for both the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Bariatric Medicine. Dr. Perea is also a volunteer lieutenant colonel for the Civil Air Patrol, Auxiliary of the United States Air Force, where he has served as a squadron aerospace education officer, mission aircrew pilot, and cadet orientation pilot, as well as the New Mexico Wing medical officer and the New Mexico Wing director of safety. He is a seasoned guest lecturer and is a member of several boards and societies.
