Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center completes first LVAD procedure in New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE- January 17, 2018 –The first ever left ventricular assist device, or LVAD, in New Mexico was implanted at Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center by New Mexico Heart Institute cardiothoracic surgeon, Dana A. Booth, MS, MD.

Baby Enrique was the first baby born at Lovelace Regional Hospital in 2018. He was born on Tuesday at 2:50 p.m. and weighed in at 6 pounds, 14.3 ounces and was 20 inches long.

The family received gifts for the baby donated by Pioneer Bank, Apple Blossom, Barringers, Finishing Touches and House of Flowers.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Gary L. Whittington will become chief financial officer of Lovelace Health System on Jan. 3. Whittington, a certified public accountant, has over 18 years of corporate accounting experience in health care, most recently as the market chief financial officer at Baptist Health System, a division of Tenet Healthcare/Vanguard Health Systems, in San Antonio, Texas, according to a news release from Lovelace.

Lovelace Health System has hired a new chief financial officer of Lovelace Regional Hospital in Roswell, effective Jan. 8.

Sheri Milone. CEO of Lovelace Women's Hospital (Albuquerque, N.M.). Since joining Lovelace Health in 1992, Ms. Milone has served as CEO of Lovelace Westside Hospital in Albuquerque and is now CEO of Lovelace Women's Hospital. Under her guidance, Lovelace Women's Hospital added a breast cancer center, maternal-fetal program for high-risk pregnancies, natural birthing center and minimally invasive robotic surgery program.

Lovelace Women’s Hospital has achieved international recognition as a baby-friendly designated birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA.

Baby-Friendly USA is the U.S. authority for the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund. The initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

UNM students have designed a new prosthesis that promises to revolutionize healing and mobility after lower-body amputations. The innovation is expected to significantly impact patient care and was recently awarded $50,000 to help prototype and patent the idea.

Lovelace Health System welcomes Gary Whittington as CFO

ALBUQUERQUE – December 12, 2017 – Lovelace Health System welcomes Gary L. Whittington, CPA, as the chief financial officer (CFO) of Lovelace Health System, effective January 3, 2018.

Dr. Abraham Lichtmacher and Kym Halliday-Clear participated in a documentary called “Kassy Hope, My life for Yours” about perinatal and post-partum depression in women.
