Lovelace names new CFO

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Gary L. Whittington will become chief financial officer of Lovelace Health System on Jan. 3. Whittington, a certified public accountant, has over 18 years of corporate accounting experience in health care, most recently as the market chief financial officer at Baptist Health System, a division of Tenet Healthcare/Vanguard Health Systems, in San Antonio, Texas, according to a news release from Lovelace.

Since joining Lovelace Health in 1992, Ms. Milone has served as CEO of Lovelace Westside Hospital in Albuquerque and is now CEO of Lovelace Women's Hospital. Under her guidance, Lovelace Women's Hospital added a breast cancer center, maternal-fetal program for high-risk pregnancies, natural birthing center and minimally invasive robotic surgery program.

Lovelace Women’s Hospital has achieved international recognition as a baby-friendly designated birth facility by Baby-Friendly USA.

Baby-Friendly USA is the U.S. authority for the implementation of the Baby-Friendly Hospital Initiative, a global program sponsored by the World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund. The initiative encourages and recognizes hospitals and birthing centers that offer an optimal level of care for breastfeeding mothers and their babies.

Lovelace's parent company grows system with out-of-state acquisition

Ardent Health Services, the parent company of the Lovelace Health System, has grown by 378 beds, a hospital and more than a dozen clinics virtually overnight through a deal it announced Wednesday. Ardent teamed up with the University of Kansas Health System to acquire Topeka, Kansas-based St. Francis Health. Ardent did not disclose the terms of the deal, but did say in a statement it plans to invest, along with the Kansas Health System, $50 million into the newly acquired hospital and its 15 clinics. The hospital will be renamed The University of Kansas Health System St. Francis Campus.
