Lovelace Regional Hospital Only Hospital in Roswell Offering Highly Advanced Robotic-Arm Assisted Joint Replacement

The only hospital in Roswell offering Stryker’s Mako Smartrobotics™

ROSWELL – March 12, 2025 – Lovelace Regional Hospital (LRH) is the first hospital in Roswell to offer patients new orthopedic robotic technology that has shown to decrease pain post-surgery, shorten hospital stays and improve flexibility as compared to manual orthopedic surgery.

“I am thrilled to have the Mako SmartRobotics™ technology and help my patients get back to activities they love,” said Deron Ottey, MD, SCOR/Lovelace Medical Group orthopedic surgeon. “I can utilize the robot to create a personalized surgical plan based on each patient’s unique anatomy before entering the operating room. It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology to New Mexicans here at Lovelace Regional Hospital.”

Mako SmartRobotics™ uses 3D software based on the patient’s CT scan, allowing the surgeon to create a personalized surgical plan for joint replacement. The robotic arm assists the surgeon in protecting the patient’s healthy bone. This means a potentially quicker recovery and better outcome for the patient.

“Lovelace is proud to be the first in Roswell to offer this highly advanced robotic technology in our area,” said Nicholas Shirilla, LRH chief executive officer. “This addition to our orthopedic service line further demonstrates our commitment to provide the community with outstanding healthcare.”
