March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, a time self-advocates, family and volutneers, along with the Brain Injury Association of America and providers like Lovelace Rehabilitiation Hospital remind the public a brain injury can happen to anyone at any time. Across the country, more than 2.4 million people suffer a brain injury each year. Having access to care as early as possible is critical for treatment and recovery to as high of quality of life as possible following injury or illness. Lovelace Rehabilitation Hospital is hosting seminars open to the public next week to spread more awareness of prevention, rehabilitation and the procress of recovery. Seating is limited. Brain Injury Prevention
This presentation will cover the main causes of brain injuries and how to prevent them. The topics covered will be fall prevention, sports injuries, vehicle-related collisions (including cars, motorcycles and bicycles and pedestrians involved in these accidents), and violence. This will be a 30 minute presentation given by Clinical Neuropsychologist Rhonda M. Ross, PSY.D., ABPdN followed by a 30 minute question and answer session that will be held immediately following the presentation.

Brain Injury Awareness Health Fair
This presentation will cover the topic “What is Rehab?” This will include a 30-40 minute presentation given by Clinical Neuropsychologist Rhonda M. Ross, PSY.D., ABPdN. The presentation will cover general information about brain injuries and rehabilitation. After the presentation attendees will then have the opportunity to visit various stations throughout the gym. Each station will have staff available to answer any questions.

Brain Injury-The process of recovery
This presentation will cover information on the process of recovery after a brain injury. We will discuss strategies that can help a person with traumatic brain injury cope with complications that affect everyday activities, including communication. We will include information on local support groups, technology and other resources available during recovery. This will be a 30 minute presentation given by Clinical Neuropsychologist Rhonda M. Ross, PSY.D., ABPdN followed by a 30 minute question and answer session that will be held immediately following the presentation.
