It’s bedtime. I’ve worked hard all day and my children are finally asleep. I sit back and enjoy the quiet for just a few minutes. There is some relief, but sometimes I ask myself, “Did I stop and say I love you today? Did I smile at my child today? Did we make eye contact?” My life is set on “run” every single day it seems. I wish I could find ways to strengthen my bond with my children without adding an extra activity.
VROOM! What’s this? A new idea has driven its way into the path of parents everywhere. “Vroom” is an early childhood smart phone app and website that provides ideas that turn driving, meals, diaper changing, any time into a moment where parents can connect with their child and help develop neural connections in their child’s brain. Fast, easy and fun! A new inspiration is sent to you daily. For example: You are in the car driving to the store. Ask your child: What do you see? Is the window down? What do you feel? What do you hear? Are we driving fast? Slow? Can you make the sound of a car? A truck?
Remember your baby can hear your voice before he/she is born! If you’re expecting, you can use “Vroom” with your baby now.
From the “Vroom” website, we get these pointers on how to make your “vroom” count.
- Make eye contact and focus on each other.
- Talk about the things you see and hear.
- Respond to your child’s words and actions. - Elaborate upon what your child says and does.
- Go back and forth with sounds, words and faces.
The most important message, however, is found in the video "You already have what it takes." Just you. Just your kid(s) is all it takes. Vroom through life a little happier because you made a connection with and for your child without packing more into your day.
