ALBUQUERQUE, April 29, 2021 — Lovelace Medical Center (LMC), Lovelace Women’s Hospital (LWH) and Lovelace Regional Hospital (LRH) received an “A” safety grade in the spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade report, a national distinction recognizing their achievements protecting patients from errors, injuries, accidents, and infections. This is the second safety grade “A” in a row for both LMC and LWH.
The Leapfrog Group is an independent national watchdog organization committed to health care quality and safety. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country and is updated every six months. It is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospitals’ prevention of medical errors and other harms to patients in their care.
“The Leapfrog grade is important because it gives patients objective criteria they need to make a decision on which hospital is the safest,” said Lovelace Health System chief executive officer Ron Stern. “The entirely of our hospitals, from our physicians to our staff, are committed to patient safety and we pride ourselves on the adherence to the measures associated with the Hospital Safety Grade. Quality and patient safety are a constant focus and it’s nice to be recognized for our hard work.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade primarily consists of measures collected and publicly reported by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), and also includes some measures from the Leapfrog Hospital Survey for hospitals that report to Leapfrog. If a hospital does not submit a Leapfrog Hospital Survey, Leapfrog uses data from the American Hospital Association’s annual survey and IT supplement instead. Hospitals are not penalized for not reporting to Leapfrog.
Lovelace Medical Center, Lovelace Women’s Hospital and Lovelace Regional Hospital are the only three hospitals in the entire state of New Mexico to earn an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for Spring 2021.
