ALBUQUERQUE – April 22, 2021 – Lovelace Medical Center and Lovelace Westside Hospital are the first hospitals in Albuquerque to offer patients new orthopedic robotic technology that has shown to decrease pain post-surgery, shorten hospital stays and improve flexibly as compared to manual surgery.

The Mako SmartRobotics™ uses 3D software based on the patient’s CT scan, allowing the surgeon to create a personalized surgical plan for joint replacement. The robotic arm assists the surgeon in assisting to protect the patient’s healthy bone. This means a potentially quicker recovery and better outcome for the patient.

“We are very pleased to have the Mako SmartRobotics™ technology for total knee and hip replacements at Lovelace Medical Center and Lovelace Westside Hospital,’ said Christopher Hanosh,  MD, Lovelace Medical Group orthopedic surgeon. “It will allow us to take care of our patients with a more precise tool in the operating room and allow for potentially quicker recovery and better outcomes for our patients. It’s exciting to be able to offer this transformative technology across the joint replacement service line in performing total knee, total hip and partial knee replacements.”

Lovelace Medical Group orthopedic surgeons are currently performing procedures using the Mako SmartRobotics™ at Lovelace Medical Center and Lovelace Westside Hospital.
