Heart Hospital of New Mexico @ Lovelace Medical Center nationally recognized for its role in providing quality care for severe heart attacks in New Mexico region

ALBUQUERQUE – October 8, 2024 –Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center (HHNM) has received the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline® Regional Recognition award for its commitment to offering swift and evidence-based care to individuals across the region experiencing the most severe heart attacks.

Achieving Mission: Lifeline® Regional Recognition denotes a commitment to high quality systems of care among STEMI Receiving Centers, STEMI Referring Centers, 911 EMS Agencies, Interfacility Transport Agencies, and other supporting system participants. The honor recognizes collaborative efforts, including quality improvement priorities outside the facility with the supporting EMS agencies participating in blinded Mission: Lifeline® regional reports and meeting the STEMI Achievement measure requirements collectively.

The program helps reduce barriers to prompt heart attack interventions – from the initial 911 call and EMS transport through hospital treatment and discharge.

“The Mission: Lifeline® Regional Recognition demonstrates our dedication to ensuring access for patients to best practices and life-saving care,” said Brian Miller, administrator of HHNM. “Our staff and providers are passionate about delivering the best care to each and every heart attack patient who comes through our doors.”

According to the American Heart Association, more than 250,000 people a year experience a critical and time-sensitive type of heart attack known as an ST elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI). STEMI heart attacks are caused by a blockage of blood flow to the heart and they require timely treatment. Rapid restoration of blood flow through mechanical means and/or clot-dissolving medication is essential to prevent death and permanent heart damage.
