The Family Birthing Centers at Lovelace Women’s Hospital, Lovelace Westside Hospital and Lovelace Regional Hospital-Roswell offer a variety of classes and resources to help expectant parents get off to the best possible start and learn all they need for the journey ahead.
Below is a list of our childbirth education classes. Prepared Childbirth, Baby Care Basics and Breastfeeding Basics are offered at no charge for members of New Mexico Health Connections and True Health New Mexico, and the following Centennial Care plans: Blue Cross Blue Shield Centennial Care. Baby Care Basics
This class will help new parents learn caregiving skills including bathing, feeding, soothing a fussy baby, safety tips and knowing what is “normal” newborn appearance and behavior. It also covers methods for dealing with postpartum depression, discusses parenting styles and gives tips for what to do if a newborn is sick. Cost is $30 per couple.
This class prepares new moms for best the possible breastfeeding start. Our certified lactation consultants lead an informative discussion on how to get started, how to prevent problems, going back to work while breastfeeding an infant, pumping basics and when and how to wean. Cost is $25 per couple.
Labor of Love Car Seat Safety
Labor of Love Car Seat Safety will help new and expecting parents learn safe care seat usage for both infant and convertible seats. They will learn common mistakes that lead to misusage as well as where community car seat check points will be. Participants are still strongly encouraged to seek out a car seat clinic to verify proper installation of seat. The class will be structured to engage all participants by description as well as active demonstration of proper ways of securing an infant into a car seat. Register for FREE by calling 898.3030.
Labor of Love Fit
Labor of Love Fit is a class designed for women of all fitness levels. Each class offers a wide variety of options with assistance and guidance from a knowledgeable certified perinatal fitness instructor. Learn to create a strong core connection that will help you to engage in safe and appropriate movement during your pregnancy and postpartum period. Fitness in the perinatal period can improve health in many ways such as reduced aches and pains during pregnancy, easier labor, and enhanced postpartum recovery. Class sessions run on a 12-week cycle with exercise advancing every 4 weeks. Modifications are available and suggested by instructor as needed. Register for FREE by calling 898.3030.
Parenting…..that huge sea of responsibility, joy and questions! The art and skills of parenthood actually start right away. Taking a course while pregnant is not too early, and taking a class after baby is just fine too. Only good can come from learning more about you and your baby, how to synchronize your parenting style with your partner’s, or to work through your own parenting fears. Circle of Security parenting course. Eight weekly sessions for complete course and offered once a quarter. Spanish language version available one to two times per year, as requested by parents. Loving Start: Parents Reaching Out
Parents Reaching Out is a non-profit organization that supports positive childhood health and development by helping parents and caregivers obtain the tools they need to best support their individual families. This monthly meeting focuses on supporting our NICU and G.R.A.C.E. families with their specialized needs. FREE to participate and no registration is required.

New Parent Group
This informative program offers new parents and those that have delivered within the last 12 months the opportunity to learn new skills, socialize with other parents and discuss various issues that come with having a new baby. Issues include stress management, growth and development, and postpartum depression. FREE to participate and offered at two locations:

These classes provide expectant parents with positive ways to cope with the physical and emotional changes that happen during pregnancy. Classes cover what to expect at the hospital, labor options, relaxation techniques and a tour of our labor and delivery and postpartum units. Cost is $80 per couple.
Getting Ready for Baby Series
Weeks 1 – 4 cover preparation for labor and delivery, which includes breathing, relaxation and exercise techniques, medical procedures, Cesarean Section, analgesia and anesthesia. Weeks 5 – 6 cover breastfeeding and baby care. Classes are free.
Getting Ready for Baby Saturday Class
This one-day class covers preparation for labor and delivery, including breathing, relaxation and exercise techniques, medical procedures, Cesarean Section, analgesia and anesthesia. Breastfeeding and baby care topics are not covered in this class, but if you attend the Saturday class, you may attend separate breastfeeding and baby care classes free of charge.
