Quality

MissionZero is Lovelace Women’s Hospital’s (LWH) commitment to providing a culture of safety for patients, their loved ones, and one another. It is evident in every decision and action we take, understanding that we all contribute to creating a safe environment, whether we care for patients or support those who do. In alignment with our MissionZero journey to prevent patient harm, LLWH created a goal to reduce Catheter Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI) rates in our hospital. CAUTIs are one of the most common health care-associated infections reported to the NHSN and are an infection involving any part of the urinary system, including urethra, bladder, uterus, and kidney. In 2023 our goal was to reduce CAUTIs at LWH by 90% by September 2023. We proposed to complete this by increasing external catheter usage and reporting out to safety huddle, involving more ICP intervention/feedback on perineal care, and creating education around perineal care. We are proud to say that by the end of our improvement cycle we reduced incidences of CAUTI by 89%. Our journey to accomplishing this goal has not only improved patient safety but also elevated the quality of care we deliver.
