Cancer screenings

Comprehensive cancer care starts with early detection. A cancer screening can detect cancer in people who may not be showing any symptoms. Screenings can help healthcare providers find and treat some types of cancer early, when treatment may be more effective.

If your family has a history of cancer, talk to your health care provider about the right screening plan for you. If you do not know about your genetic background, start talking with relatives or friends who know your family’s medical history.

At Lovelace, we offer the following types of cancer screenings:

Breast cancer screening

We believe the best approach to reassure you about your overall health is to put you in control, and taking control of your breast health is a great way to start. That’s why we offer comprehensive services that give you the knowledge and tools to stay healthy. Women over the age of 40 should begin scheduling annual mammograms. It’s important to talk with your healthcare provider about your risk for breast cancer and which breast cancer screening tests are right for you.

With two conveniently located Breast Health Centers in Roswell and Albuquerque, we are proud to offer:

  • Warm and welcoming breast health professionals
  • 3D mammogram availability
  • Walk-ins available for a quick, more comfortable process
  • Open Saturdays for more convenience
  • DEXA (dual energy x-ray absorptiometry) scan
  • Education and tools for women of all ages like tips for diet, exercise, and self-examination
  • Diagnostic breast MRI for patients at high risk for breast cancer at Lovelace Women’s Hospital

Colon cancer screening

Colon cancer screenings are essential to everyone’s health. If you’re 45 or over, it’s time to schedule yours.

At Lovelace, your comfort, care, and convenience come first. Every aspect of your colonoscopy is carefully designed, from scheduling to the procedure, with your health and time in mind. And since a pre-screening appointment or evaluation with a gastroenterologist isn’t necessary for most patients, you’re likely to save time and money, too.

Schedule your colonoscopy at Lovelace Medical Group today. Call 505-727-7833 for Albuquerque and 575-625-3400 for Roswell.

Lung cancer screening

The Lovelace Cancer Center offers a low-dose computerized tomography (CT) chest scan for lung cancer screening. The screening is simple, effective and can improve the outcome with early diagnosis.

You may be a screening candidate if you:

  • Are a current or former cigarette smoker (having quit within the last 15 years)
  • Are between 50 – 80 years old
  • Have no known history of lung cancer
  • Have a smoking history of at least 20-pack years (one pack a day for 20 years, 2 packs a day for 10 years, etc.)

If you do not fit all of the criteria above, speak with your primary care physician about your concerns. To schedule your lung cancer screening, please request a referral from your primary care physician and then call 505-727-3086.

Your evaluation may include:
