ALBUQUERQUE – July 19, 2022 – Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center (HHNM) has been named The 2022 Best Hospital in America (Teaching, small) by Money and the Leapfrog Group. HHNM is the only facility in New Mexico to make the list, which includes 148 hospitals nationally.
“Being named to The Best Hospital in America is a proud moment for all of us,” said Brian Miller, COO of Lovelace Medical Center. “It underscores our dedication to delivering the highest quality of care to our patients, while ensuring they are safe and well-cared for throughout their stay.”
The nonprofit Leapfrog Group, which helps consumers make informed decisions around the safety and value of health care, partnered with Money to create the list that assessed 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade A hospitals across 39 performance measures in seven categories, including inpatient care management, adult and pediatric complex surgeries, pediatric care, medication safety, maternity care, outpatient procedures and infections.
Leapfrog applied additional criteria related to safe medication ordering practices (to prevent medication errors), intensive care unit staffing, the response to “never events” (medical errors that are so serious they should never happen to patients, like operating on the wrong body part or a transfusion of the wrong type of blood), and performance related to certain high-risk surgeries including heart surgeries, bariatric surgery, hip replacements and lung cancer surgeries.
