Heart Hospital at Lovelace Medical Center named to national 50 top-performing hospitals list

ALBUQUERQUE (November 10, 2015) – Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center was named one of Truven Health 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals in the nation for cardiovascular (heart) success in 2015. This is the second year the hospital has been on the list. Patient outcomes from Heart Hospital of New Mexico, which falls under Lovelace Medical Center, were used to measure this national distinction.

Heart Hospital at Lovelace Medical Center was the only hospital in New Mexico on the list. The list, which was featured in Modern Healthcare, includes the 50 top-performing hospitals in cardiovascular success for three categories across the United States: teaching hospitals with cardiovascular residency programs, teaching hospitals without cardiovascular residency programs and community hospitals. Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center was named in the community hospital category.

Truven Health Analytics sets several benchmarks to determine which hospitals will make the list, including mortality rates, cost measures, extended outcome measures, clinical process measures and efficiency measures.

“Being named to this list for the second year is proof that we are moving toward our goals of excellence,” said Rachelle Spencer, administrator for Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center. “When quality is the goal, you never reach perfection, but you can reach certain benchmarks while still seeking to be ever better. This sort of recognition reminds us that we are aiming in the right direction as we seek to constantly improve our processes and outcomes.”

Lovelace Medical Center has been recognized on many such lists over the past few years, including Becker’s Hospital Review’s list of 100 Hospitals with Great Neurosurgery and Spine Programs, and the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Target: Stroke Honor Roll. Heart Hospital of New Mexico at Lovelace Medical Center has been recognized for several quality awards in 2015, most notably the American Heart Association’s Mission: Lifeline Gold Receiving Quality Achievement Award and Heart Attack Receiving Center Accreditation; the Chest Pain Center Accreditation by the Society of Cardiovascular Patient Care; and the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR ACTION Registry-GWTG Platinum Performance Achievement Award.
