For every 100,000 people living in New Mexico in 2016, 1,466 years of life were lost to heart disease (ABC News). According to Global Burden of Cardiovascular Disease Collaboration and the American Medical Association, New Mexicans are more likely to be affected by heart disease than almost anywhere else in the country.
