Do you know what an Isotope is?
Atoms of the same element can have different numbers of neutrons; the different possible versions are called Isotopes. If atoms don't have the right number of neutrons, they can become radioactive. Dr. Lovelace and the "Mercury 7 Astronauts" would have been familiar with Isotopes given Albuquerque 's post-World War II scientific research.

For more than 80 years, we've set new standards of care in New Mexico through revolutionary advances in medicine and surgery. Today, that legacy of accomplishment continues in our commitment to advanced technology and sensitive care. At Lovelace, we believe that each encounter with a patient or healthcare consumer offers an opportunity to make a difference in their health and well-being – and in our reputation for caring, customer service and positive outcomes. 2007 represents a year of progress for us. We've made investments in technology and programs to meet Albuquerque 's evolving needs. With a network of acute care hospitals serving patients throughout the greater Albuquerque and Rio Rancho metropolitan area, an accredited rehabilitation hospital, 12 neighborhood Lovelace Pharmacies and, through Lovelace Health Plan and Insurance Company, more than 6,500 physicians and medical professionals statewide, we're here for you when and where you need us.
